The Best (and Easiest) Way to Beat Sugar Cravings

What do you do when sugar cravings hit? Become stoic? Sneak a Hershey's Kiss? Cave and pull out the Ben and Jerry's?

There's a better way. It's called "dried fruit." Sweet, easy to carry with you, and--best of all--takes care of those sugar cravings. I'm talking beyond raisins and prunes (which have a bad rap but aren't that bad, actually). These days, you can get just about any fruit in its dried form: blueberries, cherries, cranberries, banana chips, mango, dates, figs....they're all sweet and easy.

To kibosh the cravings, remember four simple--but important--things:
1. Keep your servings in line. Too much of anything isn't healthy (too much dried fruit still gives your blood sugar a ride...and packs in those calories).
2. Eat 5-6 smaller meals a day, and it will help to keep your cravings down.
3. Combine a complex carb with a protein (i.e. a few brown rice crackers with pure almond butter), which helps cut down cravings, too, and
4. Plan to say hello to the crave but not to the cave (as in "caving in"). Because you know that the late-afternoon crave hits, plan for it. Have your little handful of dried cherries & almonds in a snack bag, ready to go. For me, the after-dinner cravings hit big-time (especially after Italian food...there's something about that garlic...), so I have "dessert" ready to go: one large fig and a slice of a sweet orange.

So say goodbye to sugar cravings--and say hello to feeling (and looking) fantastic. Think, believe, act, and live the way you really want to live.

All my best until next time,
Erin
